Letters to the Editor

Id like to thank Peggie Kimberlin. Richard and Veronica Needham, Joe McMahon and Nisha and Michael Villegas for taking the time to write and be published in the Flower Mound Leader letters to the editor section. There were several items in this Saturdays edition that pertained to The Morris/Geroux project. As with many peoples predictions and prognostications, saying this is not an election issue. They are wrong as they are with traffic projections. Stop Morris 6 is and will be an election issue.

  1. First I want to thamk Kim for initiating this blog and all the attendees that took the time to go to Town Hall on April 6. I have been following closely the letters and publications in the local press. There is no valid reason to make Morriss a six lane road. I have lived in Flower Mound for the past 5 years and I live close to Marcus HS and work in this same area. With the exception of the in/out school hours, there is NO traffic to speak of on Morriss. Even if it was widened to 6 lanes the slow down at those times would still be the same because of the speed limitation and the traffic flowing out of the High School. The same resoning applies to the portion of Morriss at Forest Vista MS. This will not even ease the traffic at rush hour at the crossing with Cross Timbers.A more ingenious way around that soul actually be tunnel for the trough traffic. As all know Morriss just dead ends to the North at Justin Rd and to the South at International parkway. Morriss is essentially a residential access and truly a lovely road because of the wide median and the landscaping which coincides with the spirit of Flower Mound, at least at the time of its conception. Morriss is NOT an only access to major commercial and business centers and was never meant to be. The FALSE reasoning of it being needed to access the future Riverwalk is nonesense. The Riverwalk will be an "attraction" to local residents and certainly not a tourist attraction. Even if certain businesses and the Hospital would attract the surounding areas, still the most direct acces would be through main street and 2499. Moreover the Town has spent already out dollars putting in irrigation and much needed traffic lights on Morriss. Widenings are necessary for Dixon and Justin road. Converting Morriss into a portion of freeway will only serve this unending "ego" of town officials that claim that a "new" Town Hall is necessary and that Flower Mound needs an "official" down town, obviously forgetting that the "spirit" of Flower Mound was to provide its taxpayer citizens a great, HEALTHY and SAFE place to live (and had been voted as such some years back). Let's take a look at some of the ambitious, costly and utimately not so"dynamic" for Flower Mound: Lakeside has not lived up to the provisions, we ar still waiting for a hotel and is far from full capacity, Parker Square is a great place but usually empty outside of major town events, the Target Center and the excellent shopping centers around it were planned with no provision of the traffic flow. Another example of lack of transparenccy is the Walmart in Highland Village. Not only has Flower Mound neglected to plan a very necessary widening of Justin road 9above all the portion thes narrows down to one lane, but has to mobilize Police in order to regulate the in/out traffic as well "mile long" waits at the signal at 2499. Highalnd Village residents were opposed to the Walmart project, even though Walmart did keep its promise to respect landscaping and to maintain the store above it usual standards, the project was maintained and devalued all the subdivisions around the area.
Morriss is not a freeway and we will not be manipulated as the Highland Village population was when protesting the Walmart project. Please do count me in for any and all actions.

  2. Excuse me I have been living here for 11 years... its called FORESTWOOD and "resoning" is actually "reasoning". Flower Mound is growing and you have got to get used to it. Walmart was opposed by Highland Village because you people and your upper class hot shot egos would not allow such a store. grow up.
