This morning we passed out information sheets to parents exiting Forrestwood after dropping off their children. The reception was fantastic from the school officials, Crossing Guards and all the motorists exiting the school. Almost all the feedback we recieved was positive and the message is clear, Everyone is concerned about safety and the increased risk created by widening the road. We will continue today to distribute the information sheet neighborhoods
Due to a typo on the sheets we passed out yesterday, The incorrect blogspot was listed. We apologize for the error and will correct it immediately.

The following is one of the comments recieved in email. Published with her persmission
With 2499 expanding already and a super busy, traffic highway. I agree> that we need to keep Morris a 4 lane road. We can’t have another highway> like road just a few blocks away from 2499, for the safety of our kids,> property values and all the other things that have been mentioned. Morris is> the main path that kids and family cross to run, bike, walk etc. we need to> maintain what our town stands for and not turn it into Dallas or some other> big city.>>>> Thanks,>> Holly

Creekside Meeting Update
We've changed the date of the Creekside Alliance neighborhood meeting to this Tuesday, February 24th at 7:30pm.
Information Sheet..Print & Distribute.
The Town of Flower Mound has received $11MM funding to widen Morriss Road from a 4 lane residential street to a 6 lane thoroughfare. They say we need this to accommodate future growth. In fact, their expansion plan will accommodate 28,000-42,000 vehicles on Morriss Road per day!
Proposed expansion is from 407 south 6.6 miles to 2499. The median will be removed and 2 lanes will be added. Morriss Road will then be similar to 2499 and 1171.
Development planning begins March, 2009 and construction begins mid 2010
STOPMORRISS6 represents a group of residents/constituents that oppose this expansion. Here’s why:
- Morriss is lined with RESIDENTIAL neighborhoods.
- THIS WILL NEGATIVELY IMPACT PROPERTY VALUES.
- 2 schools reside on this road: Forestwood MS and Marcus HS. We are gravely concerned about the safety of the children that have to cross, walk along or drive Morriss Road.
- The city have NO plans or funds for Sound Barriers
- Adding lanes = more cars:
o This will increase traffic noise significantly for homeowners
o More traffic increases the likelihood of accidents and impacts the safety of children walking to/from school along Morriss Road
The Flower Mound Town Council will only listen if we have enough people and subdivisions voicing their concern. There is power in numbers!
What you can do:
Mark your calendars now to come to the STOPMORRISS6 meeting on:
7:30 pm Tuesday March 10th
Location will be posted on our blog site noted below
Learn more about what we can do to fight this proposed expansion.

Help Get the Word Out
Many of you mentioned that you weren't able to attend the meeting(s) but you'd be willing to help in other ways. This is your chance!
- If you know someone in a nearby subdivision, talk to them so that they can tell their neighbors about this.
- If you know someone that has a child at Forest Wood Middle School, let them know that the Morriss Rd expansion will further complicate their drop off/pick up process. It's already backed up during these hours - just imagine 6 lanes and more cars!
- If you know anyone that is part of the LISD or PTA, talk to them. This expansion is a safety concern for children walking, riding bikes or even driving in either of the 2 school zones along Morriss Rd.
- If you go out walking the dog or getting some exercise, spread the word along the way!
This will likely have a negative impact on our property values so everyone needs to know.
We have to use a myriad of ways to communicate that this is happening and gain community support for objecting to this expansion. If you need a fact sheet, please contact us at stopmorriss6@googlemail.com and we will get some to you.
Thanks, in advance, for your support.

The Word is Getting Out
The following was sent by email to Keep Flower Mound Beautiful and several HOA management companies throughout our community:
We are writing to you as concerned citizens and representatives of a subdivision along Morriss Road to share information that is most concerning to homeowners/citizens within Flower Mound.
I've attached a fact sheet re: the Town of Flower Mound's plan to expand Morriss Road, a residential street to a six lane thoroughfare. What is now a 4 lane road with a beautiful median with grass, trees, crepe myrtles, etc. will soon be ripped apart to install 2 more lanes.
The town that attracted residents due to its focus on keeping the town beautiful and peaceful to live in is now making a 6 mile stretch of residential road one that will become unsightly, noisy and a safety concern.
We know that your organization was formed to protect the beauty of our town. Please read the attached, share it within your organization and help us fight this expansion. This is not what we came to Flower Mound for .... we don't want another Josey Lane or 2499 coming right through our neighborhoods.
We have discovered that most citizens are unaware that this plan is underway. We are trying to spread the word so that those living here and supporting the town's economy have a say in this matter.
We urge you to voice your concerns to the Town Council, come to our meeting, read our blog site, and help us protect the beauty of Flower Mound.

Luxury Apartments?
From todays "Flower Mound Messenger"
Flower Mound Apartment Complex Proposed
10 Acre Luxury Complex on Morriss Rd
The Riverwalk Apartments will be located in the 4100 block of Morriss Road, across the Boulevard from existing Timber Ridge Apartments.
The plan are for 12 three-story buildings with a total of 303 units. "These are not your typical garden apartments" Price development partner Kent Price says.
We are sacrificing our safety and the safety of our neighbors for 500 or 600 non-property owning future residents.

Did You know?
Concerned neighbors all over Flower Mound are discovering the plans for the 6.6 Mile expansion of Gerault/Morriss Rd from the current 4 lanes to a major 6 lane artery for north/south traffic flow through town. The planning stages will begin in March 2009 with construction slated to begin in early 2010.
Many of us are questioning the need of such an artery extending through a predominately residential area where speeds are already excessive and numerous accidents have occurred. The safety of residents and homeowners that line Morriss Rd is in jeopardy.
Homeowners are for the most part unaware of the Go ahead on the plan that will effect a large population of our town.
This blog is designed to educate and organize the community to have the town re-evaluate the plan and to hopefully halt its progress.
