The Agenda

The Agenda is out for mondays town council meeting. You can review it on the towns web site.

The portion of the meeting that is of most interest to us, is the part G Public Particpation.

We welcome everyone to come and address the council. In order to do so, you must fill out an "Appearance Before Town Council" form and turn it into the Town secretary no later than 6:10pm. We are asking to arrive by 5:30pm if you plan to speak. If you like, we will have a few "bullet point" items outlined if you would like to address one of those, or your own comments will be most welcome. We are limited to no more that 3 minutes per speaker, but would like to limit our comments to no more than 90 seconds in order to accomodate all those wishing to speak.

So, show up early and bring all your neighbors, THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO MAKE AN IMPACT.

On another note, I recieved a call today from a Reporter for the Dallas Morning News asking about our cause and will print a Reporters item regarding our participation at the Town Council meeting probably on saturday. She will try to attend the meeting also and is interested in our feedback after the meeting and future media involvement in our "Meet the Candidates" meeting later this month.
I hope they spell my name right.

  1. I wrote a letter to the mayor etc as you listed below. Thanks for the resources. If there is a petition we would love to sign it. Thanks for all you're doing to keep Morriss 4! Kim W.& Family

  2. I've been watching from work. The guy talking about home values is comparing Apples to oranges.

First everyone knows that DCAD overvalues the homes around here. Of course home values are going up. It's the back door tax the county subsists off of.

Second. The homes on 3040 have 20+ feet of green space between the road and their back yards PLUS a sound wall, and a nice one. Notice that he did not mention the homes on the northern side of 3040 which are of lower values, and have the crappy plain sound wall.

I find it hard to believe there's going to be 20 feet of median left after they shave off 12 feet on each side for the extra lanes. Worse, is that what he's saying is that they could easily add another two lanes there if they ever had to. DFW Connector Project anyone??

Also the language of the city council suggests that their minds are made up. We may need to seek out how to force this to a vote, I suspect we will need to get signatures of X amount of voters who voted in the last election. Luckily it was a big one so the pool will be larger.

  3. Corey,

I love your passion, it reminds me a little of.....me :) I was at the meeting and I listened to every speaker, I told you it would be a one sided conversation and it was. Mr. Tasker had to lecture us as to the 31 times the issue was on the agenda over the last 14 months, and he was right, we didn’t know. However what we did was an awesome display of we can accomplish when we all come together. After the speeches were over I stood outside and talked to the folks as they left. They were pumped up and even more confident that our movement will take hold. This current council is done, they will approve the bars staying open until 2:00am in Flower Mound and that will be their last major decision. So with that said, we need to look at the three spots that are going to be filled. In Place 3, Mike Wallace publically said he is 100% for the expansion of Morriss Rd. Claudio Forest is up in the air about it, here is what they both said:

Wallace: I support widening of Morriss, and the reason is because we have a traffic problem. We have too much demand for the supply of the capacity to meet the demand. And, I’ll tell you where it’s coming from. It’s coming from the DFW Connector, one of the largest projects in TxDOT’s history. We also have the extension of 2499 up through I-35E. We also have the River Walk at Central Park, which will have a 100-bed hospital, 1,200 residential units, retail, office, hotel and hopefully a Market Street. And finally, we have additional growth and development in surrounding communities.”

Forest: “When we first moved here, 2499 wasn’t six lanes, 3040 was a two-lane road, and the improvements were a welcome need for the growth of the town. Morriss Road … I drive it every day, and the congestion isn’t as great to be what I consider it to be on 3040 or 2499. But, because we have a large development coming to town in the River Walk, the city needs to look at that development, and after 2499 is finished and 1171 and all other improvements in The River Walk start to go in, that’s when we need to get input from everyone.”

I am against the project as you all know and here is what I said:

Butler: “I’m against it. I drive it every single day, and I’ve never been in a traffic jam on Morriss Road before. Building the River Walk is a five-six-year project, and when 2499 gets done, a lot of people from Highland Village will stop coming through Morriss Road. Once construction on 407 and 2499 is done, let’s see how it is then. I’ve heard estimates of in five or 10 years there will be 25,000 cars on Morriss Road. Where’s that coming from?”

Tom Hayden has cleared up his position recently and now says he will vote against it if elected. In place 1, I think both of the Steves will vote for it, here is what they said last week:

Lyda: “The key issue is that there is a group of residents who didn’t get the chance to speak about this, and that’s what makes me sick. We need to have better contact so that residents will know what’s going on. There are many things in town that are causing us to have to build this. One is traffic congestion, and the other is the River Walk being constructed at the top of Morriss Road. I don’t think the road should be built until developing starts up at the River Walk.”

Dixon: “I drive Gerault/Morriss almost every day. And I understand when people say we don’t need to widen Morriss. I never see what I consider a traffic jam on Morriss or Gerault. It does get a little hectic, especially at FM 1171 going north. When this does get to town council, I want to make sure the citizens have a voice, and I want to be that voice. I want to listen to those concerns.”

In Place 5 Angie Cox seems to be in favor of all road expansion saying this:

Cox: “The No. 1 issue in our town is transportation. We need to make sure we can get in and out of Flower Mound in a timely manner, and not sit in traffic so that we can get home to our families and on to our activities that we like to do. It’s important that we continue to work with TxDOT and Denton County to ensure that these roads get complete in a timely manner.”

While Rick Cleland actually answered the question like me:

Cleland: “Stop the widening of Morriss Road. Parts of it I can see down the road, maybe on the southern end, could use some attention. But the section between 3040 and 1171 … to tear up that median for concrete is just unacceptable to me.”

Bottom line is, if you are passionate about this issue, vote for the people that will support your cause!
