  1. I know this Blog is for the Morriss Rd. issue, but I want to bring up a point about our current Council regarding another big issue they voted on last night.

For those of you that don’t know about the vote to allow our bars and restaurants to stay open until 2:00 like our neighboring cities do, I want to say something about it.

Last night’s vote to deny our local businesses the right to stay open and serve alcohol until 2:00am was the height of hypocrisy for this Council. In the weeks leading up to this vote the Mayor herself told local restaurants that this ordinance would pass, I’m actually shocked there was dissention in the ranks.

Why is this the height of Hypocrisy? This is the Council that says that they worked so hard to make sure the Riverwalk would be the grand monstrosity that it will be. They amended the Master Plan and waived the SMARTGrowth provisions to make this thing happen. We are promised dreams of thriving retail, condos and a great nightlife with fancy bars and restaurants. Mr. Filidoro himself stated that he had talked to businesses in Southlake and asked if they would come to Flower Mound. They told him no, why should they? First, this restaurant and bar friendly Council bans smoking (I’m not a smoker, I’m just saying) and then they say that we have to roll up the streets at 12:00 six nights a week. At the same time, they want you as a bar or restaurant owner that lives or dies by the nightlife scene, to come to Flower Mound to do business. So we are back to the original question: Why is the current Council on one hand trying to take the “Town” out of The Town of Flower Mound by trying to create this City (not Town) Center with shopping, restaurants and bars. Then on the other hand, restricting them to ordinances that can’t compete with our neighboring cities? Truly unbelievable!

I’m not a fan of the Riverwalk, so in my opinion this vote will only hinder the developers of the Riverwalk. Unfortunately for us, they don’t have to put in any retail, they just have to try to. So, since Flower Mound is not a bar and restaurant friendly Town, we can all be excited that we will still get at least 1200 apartments on that beautiful piece of land.

  3. Bob you are now 2 for 2 with me. You are not a fan of the Riverwalk or the expansion of Morris Road, you will get my vote today. Good luck.
