We would like to thank everyone that took the time to join us at
Wilkerson Field last night
The evening started with 100+ residents together with the candidates marching from the corner of Morriss Road and 1171 southbound towards Wilkerson's Field.
Arriving at the field was all eight candidates running for council place 1, 3 and 5.
After a short brief with the candidates, moderator Jim Tullos of Flower Mound got the Forum started.
Each candidate got 4 questions with a specific timeframe to answer each question. At the end each candidate was alloted 2 minutes for a closing statement.
Here are the four questions that was asked:
1. Do you support future amendments to SmartGrowth for future commercial developments?
and Do you support exceptions to SmartGrowth without amendments?
and Do you support exceptions to SmartGrowth without amendments?
2. As a Town Council member, will you vote to stop the Morriss/Gerault expansion project? And why?
3. Under what circumstances would you support the expansion or improvement of the Morriss/Gerault road ways?
4. If you had complete control to set Town policy regarding urban drilling, what kind of policy would you advocate? Would you fight proposed legislation before the Texas House of Representatives? If so How?
The evening ended with the moderator thanking everyone for attending and reminded us all to vote in the upcoming election.
StopMorriss6 would like to thank each of the candidates for attending and for their answers. For those of you that could not attend we will have the transcript or video available shortly.
We also like to thank Little Pete's for providing us with a PA system for this event.
Our voice was indeed heard last night, all the candidates were there and the weather turned out great. They mentioned several times that it was the largest public attendance in the campaign and that proves we are making a difference. After listening to the candidates I feel the choice is clear – Place 1, Steve Dixon – Place 3, Bob Butler – Place 5, Tom Hayden. GO VOTE and stay involved!
ReplyDeleteI agree the choice is clear. Place 1- Steve Dixon; Place 3- Mike Wallace; Place 5- Angie Cox. They are the only ones with a clear understanding of Flower Mound and the experience to back it up.
ReplyDeleteWell heres my two cents. All the candidates did a great job but I say Lyda, Hayden and Butler. I feel they will serve all the people in the Town of Flower Mound. They are not afraid to take a clear stand even on the tough issues.
ReplyDeleteI thought all of the candidates did a great job. I felt most comfortable with Dixon, Cox and Forrest after last night's Q & A. It sounds like we all have different preferences after last night. Should be interesting to see how this thing shakes out.
ReplyDeleteOnly Dixon and Butler were clear. The other candidates were vague. Wallace stood out becaause he had the guts to maintain his position. I will however not vote for him as he made a point of not keeping the citizens informed of the planning he so carefully implemented. Cox was self congratulatory and lacked the courage to stand behind the widening of Morriss that she has always supported. I'm not to fond of those who change however the wind blows...
ReplyDeleteThe widening of Morriss is a clear menace to the principles of the Town of Flower Mound. It is a residential axis meant to be kept as such.
ReplyDeleteI encourage all to vote. Here is the information on voting from the Town website.
ReplyDeleteOn my way to vote!

I was unable to attend the gathering on Thursday night. I came here hoping to hear what the candidates said. I'm rather disappointed that no statements have been printed here. Where can I find the candidate's statements concerning their positions on the Morris expansion?
ReplyDeleteFeldmani:
ReplyDeleteAs a Planning and Zoning Commissioner it is not Wallace's place to keep citizens informed. Please inform me how he was suppose to do that from an appointed position?
I just saw a posting on Roundthemound.com. If you are still undecided on election day.. Go to the polls. The candidates will be there.. Ask you questions directly to the candidates.
ReplyDeleteWill be voting on Monday... Lydia, Butler and Hayden...
ReplyDeletewe'll have to see how it goes in the end but I think we need some new blood in Flower Mound politics... those that "know whats going on" are responsible for the fiasco of Riverwalk and Morris expansion.
After attending the Forum I confirmed my stand and voted for the folliowing candidates. Lyda, Butler and Hayden. We need Council Members that can take a fresh look at the direction Flower Mound will take over the next few years. It was clear that these three will serve the best interest of the residents as well as businesses. Support the current business, do not over develop, leaving us with vacancies all over town. Find new and better avenues to keep residents better informed. Fiscal responsibilites. In my mind if we are going to stop/delay the Morris expansion, these are the 3 candidates that will support this cause.
