TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

The Town of Flower Mound has received an allotment of $11MM to widen Morriss Road from 4 to 6 lanes – from FM407 to FM2499. Many citizens of Flower Mound question the need for this specific expansion at this time. When asked, the Town continues to respond that it has been part of the Master Plan since 1981, giving no current data that warrants this expansion. The Master Plan has been amended numerous times over the years. Their reason for expansion is not valid.

Concerns:

The town has not been able to produce data that supports need for expansion at this time.
The current construction underway on 2499 and 1171 is not complete, therefore there is no way to truly evaluate need for expansion.
Riverwalk development is not complete. It is unknown how much traffic that will generate.
There have been no Public Hearings relative to the Morriss Road expansion plan

Development planning begins Q2 2009 and construction begins mid 2010.

The Flower Mound Town Council will only listen if we have enough people voicing their concern.

We want:

To delay expansion until valid traffic data can be gathered
Public Hearings relative to expansion plans
FULL TRANSPARENCY---not something buried in a Bond election

  1. Kim,

Again, is the Morris Rd. expansion issue going to be on the agenda for April 6th? The reason I ask is that the council members will not be allowed to talk to us about this issue unless it's on the agenda. They will simply hear us out and thank us for our comments. I don't want the people's expectations to be diminished when we don't get an acceptable respone. However, if they are willing to put the issue on the sgenda, we can have a great debate with them. Please respond. Thanks!

  2. They're not allowed to talk about issues unless it's on the agenda?

This city government really stinks. And I thought the federal government was bad.

Also Bob, they dont publish the agenda until 72 hours prior to the meeting.

  3. I doubt that it will be an agenda item for this meeting, but how can they ignore a large turnout over a single issue. Our goal is to make an impact on them to have it added to future meetings and to have fully transparent public hearings about the issue. What kind of statement would be made by the current council to cast a blind eye to us?

  4. I talked with Mr. Tasker, currently in Place 5 for the Council, about us coming to the meeting this Monday to see what kind of response we should expect. He told me that they are not allowed, by law, to talk about any issues that are not on the agenda. They will hear our cry, but will only be allowed to thank us for our comments. The next scheduled meeting that will have Morriss 6 on the agenda won't be until August when they have to approve the new budget, therefore handing the problem off to the next council. We need to demand that the topic be added to the next council meeting when addressing them on Monday if we are to be heard before August. I just want everyone to know the facts before we show up, so that we can have a unified message for the Council.

  5. Where is all the traffic that demands this widening of Morriss? If traffic is so heavy then it must be well after 4:00-4:30PM... One could not tell that the typical rush hour had started and would typically continue to about 6:00-6:30PM.

If the traffic IS so heavy and the median is removed and turned into lanes of traffic, I have two questions:
    1) How many lanes does the town expect to get out of that width of space? Two. Well a minimum of THREE is necessary; one for each direction of traffic and the third for left turning traffic (these lanes can be face to face at the intersection.)
    2) Residents of all the side streets can now use the median as a crossing safety zone to make a left turn by first going half-way. That safety zone will go away. So how will all the residens manage to make their turns into this supposed volume of traffic if they have to wait for a clearance. Drive halh-way and stick the butt of their vehicle into the left lane of traffic?? There's traffic safety for ya!!

    Show me the traffic.

BTW, last week I saw a lost 60 ft. tractor trailer going north on Morriss and it took 20 seconds to clear the intersection at Firewheel once hits light changed to green. Widen Morriss and expect Morriss to turn into a 2499 alternate route. No? That's part of the Law of Unintended Consequences, things that occur that you didn't expect because the plan was not thought through fully and carefully enough.
